The skill It's a Trap! is an advanced skill for rangers and unlocks at level 50. It grants the ability to put traps in quest areas that steal loot of other players.

Description

In-game description: Being jealous of others enriching themselves, you have learnt sneaky ways to steal some valuables, when people least expect it. Use /use_trp to access your trapper's equipment.

Effect

In-game effect description: Advancing this skill increases the chance to set a trap.

Unlocking the skill grants access to the command "/use_trp". Typing this shows an output like this (prices vary, see Notes):

You can craft trapper's equipment from scrap materials that can be bought for gold.

Traps:
Red trap 55 Gold.png
/use_trp_tr1
Yellow trap 50 Gold.png
/use_trp_tr3
Green trap 70 Gold.png
/use_trp_tr4
Blue trap 65 Gold.png
/use_trp_tr5
Indigo trap 45 Gold.png
/use_trp_tr6
Violet trap 60 Gold.png
/use_trp_tr7

Tools:
Colorless shard 30 Gold.png
/use_trp_td1
Mushroom Stash 40 Gold.png
/use_trp_tms
Observer ward 50 Gold.png
/use_trp_tow

The trap colors shown correspond to a certain castle, the own castle (in this example it was Wolf.pngWolfpack Castle) is not shown.

List of castles with corresponding trap colors:

  • Eagle.pngHighnest: Red trap
  • Wolf.pngWolfpack: Orange trap
  • Deer.pngDeerhorn: Yellow trap
  • Shark.pngSharkteeth: Green trap
  • Dragon.pngDragonscale: Blue trap
  • Moon.pngMoonlight: Indigo trap
  • Potato.pngPotato: Violet trap

After buying a trap it is located in /inv -> Equipment and has a weight of 50. To use it the trap has to be unwrapped and equipped in the offhand weapon slot. Once the trap is equipped the player has to finish a quest and then has a chance to set up the trap. This chance rises with increasing levels of the skill.

After the trap is set up it can be triggered by a player of the castle that the trap works on (eg: Red Trap triggers only for a Highnest player). By doing so, the trap steals a part of the quest loot of that person and gives it to the Ranger that set up the trap. No item is excluded, which means that traps are able to steal not only resources but also recipes and parts. The only exception to this seems to be event specific loot[citation needed].

Tools

Colorless shard: The colorless shard helps to prevent triggering a trap. It has to be bought and used the same way traps do and also weighs 50 in a players stock. Once equipped it reduces the overall chance to get trapped and has a small chance to completely block a trap that would have triggered even with the reduced risk. Once the shard completely blocks a trap, it is used up. As of now there is no info message of this happening, so players have to regularly check their equipped items to see if the shard is still there or if it's already used up.
Unlike traps the price of colorless shards doesn't change.

Mushroom stash: The mushroom stash is used like a trap and needs to be set by someone with the It's a Trap! skill. Then, a player of the same castle as the "Trapper" can find the mushroom stash. Once triggered the stash regenerates a few hp for the player who triggered it.

Observer ward: The observer ward works the same as traps and the mushroom stash. Once triggered by a player it gives a higher chance for encountering monsters for a while to both the "Trapper" and the person triggering it.

Unlocks

The Mushroom stash and Observer ward don't unlock at first level of the skill, higher levels of it are needed. Apart from the tool unlocks, prices of traps also go down by 1-2 gold per level of the skill:

It's a Trap! level Tool Unlock Gold reduction Gold reduction (cumulative)
1 Colorless shard 0 0
2 Mushroom stash 1 1
3 Observer ward 2 3
4 No new unlocks 2 5

Note: The gold reduction only applies to traps, not to tools.
