Attention, sentinels! It's now vital to protect your poor villagers from being raided as they are now struggling to trade with distant countries.

This game update made changes to the intercept of forays by sentinels. After a succesful defeat of a player foraying, the sentinel has the chance that a merchant appears:

You defended villagers well. In exchange for your help, local trader offered you a deal you can't refuse. He is going to buy some of your resources for whole 2  per item. However, he is leaving to distant lands and his caravan can only carry 150. 
To accept his offer, use /sc {code} {quantity}. And try not to turtle. He can only wait so much.

As the message states, the merchant will exchange any type of resource for gold. Using /sc {code} {quantity} spends the resource and exchanges it for gold:

The trader gave you some gold and left.
You received: 66 exp and 200 gold.
