The Battle of the Seven Castles has seven different places where the armies fight: at each castle. The sum of the attack value of all attackers is compared to the total defense of the defenders. If the attackers have a higher value, the castle is breached and the attackers raid the castle for gold and stock gain. If the defenders are stronger, the attackers lose gold and possibly equipment.
